Like most structured martial arts Choi Kwang Do has grading’s for belt levels. Each level is achieved by demonstrating knowledge and ability to perform patterns, techniques and drills that are associated with that level. Before reaching Black belt each of the colours are divided into two levels, junior and senior belts, the junior is donated by the plain colour and the senior belt has a black band running through it. With the junior belts you learn new techniques new patterns and drills, with the senior belt you get the chance to perfect those techniques and utilise them in more complex patterns.
From the first day you walk in to Norwich Choi Kwang Do you are taught skills that will help you defend yourself in a confrontational situation. On the first lesson we will briefly touch upon all the skills you will learn in order to grade for your first promotion, we will then go through these in greater depth as time passes. The lessons are divided into sections, the first is techniques and we will teach you how to block, punch and kick effectively. We do shield work which gives you something to test your new skills on and practice varying routines of punches and kicks. You will also be taught what we call patterns, routines of defending and counter attacking in the air. Defence drill is our answer to sparing, instead of us trying to beat one another we work with one another to help teach each other how to block an attack as well as retaliate in a controlled environment. We have speed drills to increase agility and learn how to use your techniques quickly and effectively, Adults and higher belt students will also cover as part of the syllabus takedowns, bringing your attacker to the ground in order to prevent them from attacking further along with defending against varied weapon attack. |
